UNIT 1
Voltages and currents varying with time:
A.C. Peak value and rms value. A.C. applied to a resistor. Self and mutual inductance. RC series circuit with d.c. and with a.c. LR circuit with d.c. and a.c. supply. Phasor diagrams. LCR series circuit. Impedance. Power factor. Resonance.
UNIT 2
Nature of light:
Light as a wave. Geometrical and physical optics. Light as electromagnetic radiation.
Electrons and Photons:

Cathode rays. Thomson's discovery of the electron. Breakdown of classical notion of matter and wave nature of radiation. Photoelectric effect. The Photon and the Quantum interpre-tation of photoelectric effect. de Broglies's hypothesis.
UNIT 3
Structure of matter:
Physical (gases, liquids, solids) and chemical (mixtures, compounds & elements) classification of matter. Molecules and atoms. Laws of chemical combination. Dalton's atomic theory. Avogadro's hypothesis. Concept of mole. Determination of chemical formulas and writhing balanced chemical equations.
UNIT 4
Atoms:
Alpha particle scttering and Rutherford's model of atom. Quantization of energy and other Physical variables in classical and quantum physics. Bohr's model of hydrogen atom. Atomic constituents. Quantum numbers and orbitals. Electron configuration of atoms. Madeleev's periodic table.
UNIT 5
Solids and semi conductors:
Structure of solids. Valence and conduction bands. Semiconductors. Intrinsic and extrinsic semi conductors. Junction diode. Transistor and principle of its action.

UNIT 1
Electronic Components-I:
Resistor types of resistors, Resistor colour coding, Variableresistors, troubles in resistors. Capacitor, types of Capacitors, capacitor colour coding, variable capacitors, troubles in capacitors. Inductors, variable inductors. Transformers : Ordinary transformer, Center tapped transformer, Coupling transformer, troubles in inductors.

UNIT 2

Electronic Components-I:
Semiconductor diodes, commonly used diodes, checking of diode terminals, troubles in diode, Zener diode, ratings of Zener diode, LED's LDR's Transistor, transistor terminals, PNP & NPN transistor symbols, transistor data sheet. Transistor packaging and identification of transistor leads, transistor testing. Other components used in TV and Radios (relays, voltage regulators etc.).
UNIT 3
Electronic Instruments and Accessories:
Ordinary power supply, regulated power supply, analog and digital multimeters, Soldering iron and soldering process. Different type of PCB's.
UNIT 4
Television:
Different sections of a TV set, function of different sections, troubles and trouble shooting of different sections.
UNIT 5
Radio Receiver and Tape Recorder:
Block diagram showing different sections of a radio receiver,  repair of a radio receiver and cassette tape recorder, Different IC's used in electronic circuits, their pin identification and uses.

UNIT 1
General idea about the layout of lighting, heating and power circuits. Concept of sub circuits and restriction in terms of load and no. points on lighting and power subcircuits, Precautions in case of mixed load in medium pressure installation (IS:732-1963). Position of light and heating points and their controls.

UNIT 2

Description of Rowel tools and plug, their sizes, plugging compound, wooden plug, use of cold chisel, hammer, wall jumper, their sizes and uses.
UNIT 3
Different types of motors used in industries, Wiring of motor installations, Controlling and Starting devices, their connection, lay-out and earthing. Code of practice for earthing of industrial wiring (IS:3043-1963), wiring in workshops, factories and houses, Knowledge of fire insurance rules and its applications.
UNIT 4
Distribution of D.C. 2 wire, A.C. 3 phase-3 wire and 3 phase-4 wire system (IS:732-1963). Distribution system for multi storeyed buildings, Concepts of busbar and busbar chambers.
UNIT 5
Fundamentals of A.C. Single phase system, characterizes of series and parallel circuits. Calculations of impendence, power and power factor. A.C. polyphase system advantages over 1-phase, 3-phase Star-delta connections, Phase and line values of current and voltage in star & delta connection. Simple calculation in A.C. 3-phase circuits.

1. To make connection of ceiling fan with capacitor and regulator and measure the output voltage for different position of the regulator.
2. Making complete wiring of a distribution board for3-point using energy meter, fuse set, main switch distribution box.
3. To make connection of a three phase induction motor of 1 H.P. rating to be operation by a direct On-line starter.
4. Assembly of single phase direct-On-line starter using contactor and push button switches and its applications.
5. To make connection of a 5 h.p. motor with star delta starter (Manually and fully automatic).
